About our CSA at Yacolt Mountain Farm

WHY JOIN A CSA?

    1. To eat healthy fresh seasonal produce straight from the farm at a discounted price.

Being a CSA member means getting a weekly box of veggies that was literally just picked the morning of the pick-up or the evening before in case of a morning drop. We hope to have U-pick opportunities for our CSA members in the near future. By committing as a CSA member you will receive a discount off of our market prices on all products.

2. To support a local farm and buy directly from the farmer.

Buying a CSA share means supporting our farm. It gives us security that our products will be sold and gives us funds when we truly need them. Instead of buying produce that comes from unknown places, has traveled many miles and gone through many different hands, buying directly from us gives you the satisfaction of knowing exactly where your food comes from. Unlike relying on labels or hoping that no chemicals where sprayed on you food, you can trust that we will never spray any chemicals on your food and if you have any questions on what we feed our chickens or how we do things we can answer you right away.

3. To spice up your food experience by trying new vegetables and tastes.

Many times, people who join a CSA will receive vegetables that they would never purchase at the store. This is truly an opportunity to experience new vegetables and recipes. We understand that certain vegetables may not be peoples favorite and we allow people to request substitutions for unwanted vegetables. Many of our CSA members have told us that getting weekly vegetables gives them a great reason to explore new recipes and that eating vegetables that are harvested fresh has allowed them to enjoy vegetables that in the past they did not like.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

  • Our goal is to provide you with a minimum diversity of 5 different products in your box each week.

  • We prioritize our CSA members as our most important customers and give them our best and our most limited products. Thus, some products that our CSA members get will never make it to market.

Every year we listen to our customers comments so that we can provide a diversity of produce that is appealing and exciting. We cannot guarantee what will be in your weekly box as the weather and other growth factors challenge the success of each crop differently each season, however this is what we have had in our boxes in the past (this list is just a example of what we may have):

Spring (May through end of June): lots of salad greens and brazing greens (including kale, lettuce, mizuna, arugula, spinach, spicy mustard, pac choy leaves), radishes (french breakfast), fresh cut herbs (parsley, chives, cilantro, dill, and others by choice oregano, thyme), beets and beet greens, leeks, fennel, peas, bunching onions, rhubarb, strawberries

Summer (July through September):  salad greens and brazing greens (including chard, kale, lettuce, mizuna, arugula, spinach, spicy mustard, pac choy leaves), broccolini, cauliflower, cabbage (green, red, savoy, napa), green beans, bulb onions, cucumbers, zucchini, garlic, fennel, kohlrabi, basil, radishes (french breakfast, icycle), fresh cut herbs (parsley, celery greens chives, cilantro, dill, and others by choice oregano, thyme),  beets and beet greens, carrot bunches, fennel, peas, bunching onions, rhubarb, eggplant, green bell peppers, shishito frying peppers, parsnip, tomatoes, potatoes, plums

Fall (September through November): lettuce, chard, spinach, beets, carrots, parsnips, garlic, potatoes, green beans, purple and red bell peppers, sweet frying peppers, jalopeno peppers, tomatoes (opportunity for canning tomatoes), eggplant, cuccumbers, onions, leeks, winter squash (kabocha, delicata, hubbard, butternut), jerusalem artichokes, apples

First things to know

  • WHERE DO YOU PICK UP YOUR WEEKLY BOX?

For 2024 our CSA will be organized by location, please look for details here below.

So far we have 3 locations where we will organize share pick-ups.

Check out our bi-weekly pick up option at the Farm if you feel like every week would be too much.

Locations:

  • At our farm:
    • Pre-season Fridays      430 to 630pm (pick up days will be assigned to members to match the seasonal growth, each member will pick up 5 times between end of March and end of May
    • main season Tuesday or Friday 430 to 630pm (*!*you have to pick up on the weekday you sign up for, however if arrangements are made ahead of time we can often be flexible between Tuesday and Friday choices, note: produce share will not be saved and produce availability may be less if not picked up on assigned day*!*)

  • Camas farmer's market: Wednesdays,      last week of May through last week of September (the entire market season), from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. In the case of market cancellation special arrangements will be made.

WHEN DOES IT START?

Our Preseason runs end of March/April through May

Our Main Season runs from June through October

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Preseason $100 (5 pick ups on alternating weeks, cost comes out to $20/pick up, value you get in your share will avg. to $21/pick up)

Main season Large share $500 (21* weeks,  cost comes out to $22.7/week, value you get in your share will avg to $26/week + $20 in storage crop value in October)

Main Season Small share $360  (21* weeks,  cost comes out to $16.4/week, value you get in your share will avg to $18/week + $15 in storage crop value in October)

Bi-weekly Large share $270  (10* weeks,  cost comes out to $24.5/week, value you get in your share will avg to $26/week, + $20 in storage crop value in October)

Note: the value of your share will fluctuate with the abundance of the season but we are careful to make sure you receive the avg. value stated above if you pick up your share on assigned pick up days

*Camas note: The Camas market has 18 weeks but we add winter storage crops to the last few weeks to get to the desired avg value

WHEN DO YOU SIGN UP?

You should sign up at least 2 weeks before the CSA season starts, however, we do expect our CSA to fill up as we only have a limited number of shares available, so we suggest signing up early to reserve a share.

You can choose the market value of your weekly box by choosing between a small or a large share. The size of the share does not change the diversity in the box, but does change the quantity of produce in the box.
